Tips for Substance Abuse and Mental Health Treatment

Here are a few helpful tips for before, during and after the treatment process. These tips are for family, friends and individuals seeking treatment. If you have more questions please check out our Frequently Asked Questions or call or email us today.

1. Choose a treatment program that fits your lifestyle and your needs

There are many different types of treatment programs that work for various types of lifestyles. Someone that is looking for a shorter length, intensive program is more likely to choose a 30-day residential program. This type of program is very effective for drug and alcohol abuse problems and can be a good beginning for people struggling with dual diagnosis issues as well. A residential program offers support 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Another option that is just as effective for different clients is an outpatient treatment program. These programs can be used in conjunction with a residential treatment program or just on their own. There are also variations on these programs that include adolescent treatment, adult treatment, executive treatment and more.

2. If a person is unwilling to go to treatment, consider an Intervention

It is very common for an individual that is struggling with drug or alcohol abuse to not quite be willing to go to treatment even when they are aware that they are harming themselves and others. This does not mean they will not be successful at treatment, it just means they might need a little bit more of a push. In these instances, we recommend a drug or alcohol intervention that is performed by a licensed specialist and can help individuals realize that they need help with their problem. In general the success rate of interventions is very high and we can offer you different options and information about interventions when you call.

3. Get all you can out of the treatment program

If this is your first, second or third time to treatment, make sure you get all you can out of it. For many people relapse has been part of their process, however we hope that with our expert referral you will be able to find long lasting recovery with a strong support system using the tools that you have been given over time. Asking for help and letting someone know when you are having a hard time are two cornerstones of relapse prevention. Let people help you succeed.

5. Find a program that sees you all the way through until the end

At Treatment Solution Referrals we work with programs that offer aftercare and aftercare plans. The days, weeks and months right after treatment can be a struggle but getting through them also ensures a greater chance of long-term sobriety. Creating an aftercare plan about what to do in sticky situations, what type of daily support is available and who will be involved is extremely important for newly sober or people new to recovery.
